A perfect homage to the Kronenhalle Bar in Zurich
In 1964, Gustav Zumsteg, son of Hulda Zumsteg, the legendary landlady of Zurich's Kronenhalle restaurant, realized a daring plan: He acquired the vacant hairdressing salon in the neighboring house and contacted the young designer Robert Haussmann to give the popular restaurant an in-house add cash. Hulda Zumsteg was anything but impressed: the serving of alcoholic beverages in the narrow room seemed dodgy to her, she feared for the good reputation of her address. Gustav Zumsteg and Robert Haussmann countered these reservations with the highest standards. Noble materials expertly crafted, lamps and tables from Diego Giacometti's workshop, art on the walls and last but not least the engagement of chefs de bar, who win awards in the international cocktail culture:
"Sans Pareil" guides you through the history and present of the Kronenhalle Bar in pictures and text. Art and design-historical references characterize the reading, cocktail recipes recommend drinks that have become famous for imitation. A book to leaf through for pleasure-seeking readers, for those interested in design and art.
