Olivier Mosset, a painter and motorcycle enthusiast, helped establish a subculture of motorcycle clubs in Europe in the late 1960s when he purchased a Harley Davidson from a US Army surplus in Paris. His studio on the Rue de Lappe served as a hub for a Marxist-influenced motorcycle club, as well as a place for radical painting, characterized by conceptually reduced black circles on white canvases. Mosset's vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, have played a significant role in his life and work, both as a means of transportation and as readymades in his art. In an interview with art critic Elisabeth Wetterwald and US artist Vincent Szarek, who often collaborated with Mosset, the intersection of art and motorcycles is examined, as Mosset's vehicles were displayed in museums and at motorcycle shows. Art historian Philip Ursprung also explores the significance of technology, culture, and nature to Mosset in his essay, highlighting Mosset's journey from the Jura mountains to Paris, New York, and finally, a cross-country motorcycle trip to Tucson, Arizona in 1996.
